Secret Russian is an incredibly deep, mathematically rich variation of traditional Solitaire that fundamentally alters the classic Yukon/Russian formula by aggressively injecting a massive element of terrifying uncertainty. Set against a clean, visually minimalist green felt table aesthetic, players are presented with a sprawling tableau of seven columns. The brutal twist that shatters standard strategy is right in the name: instead of all cards being exposed (like standard Russian Solitaire), massive chunks of the tableau are dealt face-down ("secret" cards). Your objective remains the same: maneuver the cards to build four complete sequences in the foundation piles, from Ace up to King by suit. The atmosphere shifts from purely calculating to intensely risky, requiring players to possess a masterful understanding of cascade math while simultaneously gambling on uncovering the specific cards they need hidden in the dark. It is an uncompromising test of logic where the safety of perfect information has been violently stripped away.
How to Play
- The primary objective is to move all 52 cards into the four foundation piles at the top right, building upward in suit from Ace to King.
- Cards are dealt into seven tableau columns. The top cards are face-up, but the cards beneath them are "secret" (face-down).
- Use your
Mouseto click and drag exposed face-up cards between columns. - The Russian Rule (Crucial): You can build cards downward on the tableau in the EXACT SAME suit (e.g., a Hearts 8 can ONLY be placed on a Hearts 9).
- The Group Move Rule: You can move ANY face-up card to a valid destination, and every single card resting on top of it will come along for the ride, regardless of whether they are in sequential order or not.
- Moving a face-up card off a face-down card will automatically reveal the hidden card.
Tips and Tricks
- Prioritize the Reveal: In standard Russian Solitaire, you plan massive, ten-step cascade chains. In Secret Russian, you MUST be willing to make sub-optimal, messy moves if it means uncovering a face-down card. Information is the absolute most valuable resource in this variant.
- Empty Columns are Pure Gold: An empty tableau column is infinitely valuable, as it gives you a safe place to dump Kings you uncover blindly, or a place to park a messy, un-sorted stack of cards while you excavate the column beneath them.
- Unearth the Aces Early: Your entire early game must focus heavily on excavating the four Aces so they can be moved to the foundations. Dig aggressively into the columns that have the most face-down cards to find them.
- The "Undo" Button is Mandatory: If you make a risky move to uncover a face-down card, and it turns out to be a useless card that deadlocks your board (because you had to move a messy stack to get it), you must immediately undo the move.
- Embrace the Chaos: Because you can move non-sequential stacks, do not be afraid to temporarily bury a card you need if it allows you to uncover three face-down cards in another column.
